About Me

My name is David Wescott. I'm a creative public affairs professional who advocates for science, market-based environmentalism, and feminism. I work for a DC-based global communications firm, but the opinions expressed here are mine alone.

I'm an occasional contributor to blogs that reflect my interests - Science Cheerleader, Earth & Industry, The Broad Side, and Global Voices Online. I'm also an advisory board member at Blog With Integrity. I helped build my company's blog, Virtual Vantage Points, and I sometimes chip in at PR publications such as The Firm Voice, PRSA's Strategist and Tactics.

My background is a bit varied. I have worked for a United States Senator, a statewide business advocacy group, and a pediatrics department in a public hospital. The toughest job I've ever had was little league umpire.

The picture in my blog header (a group of Kentish Plovers taken by wildxplorer) represents the greatest challenge in digital communication today - overcoming homophily, or the tendency of "birds of a feather" to "flock together." I hope you'll notice one of the birds is slightly different...

It's nice to share
